A bit of gentle compression to keep the mix together is fine but "brick walled" files leave us no scope to master the tracks effectively. Ideally we would prefer at least 3db of headroom to work with as this gives us enough scope to bring the best out of the track. If you are running a compressor over your final mix to "keep it in check" just reduce the output gain of the plug in / outboard compressor to bring the level down. If no compression is used then simply reduce the level of your master fader. We understand that the 3db headroom level may not always be achievable but the closer you can get to that, the better the final result will be! Many thanks Cr2 Mastering |
